Dudley Adams (1762–1830)

Born into the renowned Adams family of instrument makers, Dudley established his own workshop at Charing Cross in 1788. His father held royal appointments in the Ordnance Department, a legacy Dudley continued during the Napoleonic Wars.

He secured several patents, most notably for spectacles and a “portable” telescope. In the early 19th century, he also produced fine pocket globes as Globe and Mathematical Instrument Maker to the King, serving George III.
