Covens & Mortier was an Amsterdam map and atlas publishing partnership active in the early eighteenth century, important for consolidating and reissuing some of the most influential Dutch cartography of the previous generation. The firm is best known for keeping major seventeenth-century map plates in circulation at a time when Amsterdam remained a principal centre of European map production and trade.

The business was formed when the publisher Johannes Covens entered into partnership with Cornelis Mortier, son of the Amsterdam publisher Pieter Mortier. Through this connection the firm drew upon the substantial Mortier stock and plate material, issuing maps and atlases that often relied on established designs by leading French and Dutch cartographers, updated and presented for a new market.

Covens & Mortier publications are frequently encountered under the firm’s combined imprint, and are valued for their wide distribution and for preserving, re-editing, and repackaging authoritative geographical images for eighteenth-century readers and collectors.
