Description
A cosmological plan showing the heliocentric Solar System, marking the paths of the planets and the moons of Jupiter. The Zodiac constellations are shown in the outer ring. The borders are filled with clouds, and contain other illustrations, including the systems of Ptolemy and Brahe and a comparison of the sizes of the bodies of the Solar System.
The plate was drawn by Johann Melchior Füssli (1677-1736) for Johann Jakob Scheuchzer's 'Physica sacra', which attempted to reconcile the Bible with modern science.
