Description
A scarce collection of depictions of nine sea battles between the British and French fleets in 1758 (despite the title), during the Seven Years' War (1756-63), with descriptions in German and French.
The nine are: The Battle of Cartagena, Spain, 28th February (British victory); Saint-Louis, Senegal, May 1st (British victory); the Descent on St Malo, June (British success but the objective of taking St Malo abandoned); Fort Ticonderoga, New York State, July (British victory); the second siege of Louisbourg, Cape Breton, July (British victory); the Descent on Cherbourg, August (British captured and destroyed the port); the Battle of Fort Frontenac on Lake Ontario, August (British victory); the Descent on Saint-Cast, September (French victory, ending the descents on the coast of France); and the Gulf of St. Lawrence campaign, September, in which Sir Charles Hardy and Brigadier-General James Wolfe destroyed the French fishing settlements, causing a famine in Quebec.
The first of three similar plates (the others with 'Anno 1760' & 'Anno 1761'.
