Description

A map of Louisiana, showing the Gulf coast from 'Cabo del Norte' (Sabine Pass in Texas) east to 'C. Escondido' (Apalachicola Bay, Florida), with the Mississippi Delta, New Orleans, Pensicola and Mobile. An inset shows the Upper Mississippi with the junction with the Missouri. The interior is marked with rivers, mountains and Native American villages. The sites of battles between the French and the tribes are noted, especially around Natches. The map is an English edition of Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville's map of 1752, itself based on manuscript maps by French Royal Engineers, Valentin Devin & Ignace François Broutin.
