Description
A detailed map of the Louisiana coastline from near Panama City west to 'Adayes' or Los Adaes, until 1770 the capital city of the Spanish province of Texas. It is based on the manuscript maps by Valentin Devin, who surveyed the area in 1719 for John Law's 'Compagnie d'Occident', which created the infamous 'Mississippi Bubble', which crashed France's economy in 1720.
The map concentrates on the rivers, including the Mississippi with an inset of the Missouri up into Illinois. Engraved by Guillaume De la Haye.
