Description
A map of 'Transoxiana' ('land beyond the Oxus'), orientated with north to the left, marking Bukhara & Samarkand in Uzbeckistan, and Kashgar in China.
It is based on maps from the 'Taqwim al-Buldan' ('A Sketch of the Countries') by Abu'l-Fida (1273-1331), a Kurdish grographer who fought in the Crusades, served as governor of Hama in Syria, and received the hereditary rank of sultan with the title Malik ul-Mu'ayyad in 1320.
Published in Du Val's 'L'Atlas des Itinéraires et Voyages modernes'.
