Three maps of the routes of Pietro della Valle across Syria and Persia

Three maps of the various routes across Asia undertaken by the Italian explorer Pietro della Valle (1586-1652) between 1614 and 1626, during which time he reached India. The first shows his route from Aleppo to Antioch and Basrah, with separate maps of the sea route from Basrah to India and the west coast of India with Surat & Goa, which he visited 1623-4. The second shows his route from Bagdad to Isphahan via Hamadan, and on to Tehran and Ardebil. 1617. The third contains his route from Istaphan to Shiraz and onto Bandar Abbas in the Staits of Ormus (1621). The maps were published in Du Val's 'L'Atlas des Itinéraires et Voyages modernes'.
