Description

A scarce miniature map of the Eastern Seaboard from New York (here 'Nouvel Amsteram als. Manhate') and Long Island south to the region of the Houstaqua, on the May River in Georgia, although marked as being in Florida. The map also shows Chesapeake Bay and, inland, Lake Erie, with an inset containing a very rudimentary representation of Bermuda. First published in 1659 in the atlas 'Le Monde Terrestre', this example is of ther 4th state, from Du Val's 'Le Monde ou le Géographie Universelle'.
