A rare furrier’s wall map of the world

A large map on Mercator's projection, with the continents filled with vignettes illustrations of the animals utilised by the fur trade, including big cats, bears, beavers, foxes, kangaroos and hamsters, all named in French. Also marked are the shipping routes that would transport the furs. The map is within an ornamental border surmounted by a pair of mink, also containing a list of the animals of each continent. C. & E. Chapal Frères & C.ie was a family firm of furriers, which began as a tannery in 1832, but expanded quickly, opening a new factory in 1857 and a Brooklyn subsidiary in 1882. 'Chapal' still trades but focuses more on leather.
