Description
A miniature view of Santander, based on Braun & Hogenberg, but with the addition of a hermit sitting in a cave in the foreground, Above the map is a Latin motto, 'Christo sic Duce Liber Ero', with another line of Latin text and a four-line verse in German underneath. Neither the figures nor the texts appear to relate to Santander.
Meisner's book of town plans originally appeared in 1623 with only 52 plates. In 1624-6 it was re-issued with 416, and again in 1638-42 with a new title, 'Sciographia', and 800 plates, each plate with a letter before the pagination, as this example.
