Description
A large and detailed chart of the West Indies, filled with useful details for privateers, including the routes of the Spanish flotillas through the islands, how long they stay in harbour, when they sail, etc. Insets include a view of Mexico City and charts of Havana and Cartagena.
The map is dedicated to William Paterson (1658-1719), a founder of the Bank of England, instigator of the ill-fated Darien Scheme (New Caledonia and New Edinburgh are still marked on the map, long after the colony failed), and proponent of the Act of Union between England and Scotland.
