Description

A map of Europe with the Catholic regions without shading and the other regions, whether Protestant, Russian Orthodox Muslim, in darkness. The title cartouche shows Christ bestowing the keys of the kingdom on St. Peter in front of St. Peter's Basilica. In the background the Shepherd's flock grazes while St. Peter casts his net in the Sea of Galilee. From 'Geographia Naturalis' by Heinrich Scherer, a Jesuit mathematician and geographer.
