Description
John Speed's map of Anglesea is of one of the most decorative maps of the island, with an inset plan of Beaumaris, strapwork cartouches for the title, plan and scale, armorials and a large compass rose.
It was engraved by Jodocus Hondius in 1610 and first published in John Speed's county atlas, 'The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine' the following year. Although the plate still retains the imprint of the original publishers, John Sudbury and George Humble, this example was published by William Humble, George's son.
