Description
A fine map of Austria, with the Danube running across the centre, based on the map by Wolfganf Laz (1514-65).
This map was engraved by Jodocus Hondius II (c.1594-1629), son of the Jodocus Hondius who engraved the John Speed county maps. He left the family business to set up on his own c.1621; after his early death many of his copper plates were sold to the rival Blaeu firm. Willem Blaeu engraved his own name onto the plates and used them as the basis of his first general atlas.
