Description

A finely engraved nautical chart of the strait between New Zealand’s North and South Islands, showing soundings and the coastline surveyed during the first voyage of James Cook (1768-71). The map forms part of the authoritative 1773 three-volume account of mid-18th-century Pacific voyages, bridging the work of explorers such as Byron, Wallis and Cook.
