Description
A rare woodcut map of Sicily, within an ornate border printed from a separate block. On the reverse is a woodcut map of Elba, set in French letterpress.
From Belleforest's 'La Cosmographie universelle de tout le monde', which was a French translation of Sebastian Munster's 'Cosmography', although taking the maps and prospects from other sources, including Ortelius and Braun & Hogenberg. As there was only one edition, Belleforest's maps are considerably rarer than Munster's.
